SOKKEL - de Imagerie
An empty pedestal stands in the city center. It is a wooden replica of a pedestal that carries a statue of Leopold II in Brussels. Unlike the original structure, this copy does not support a colonial king, but forms a dubious backdrop for contemporary artists who bring their own visions on colonialism.
Copying the pedestal is not a celebration of an old form, but a way to reclaim space: The king is gone, there is room for other stories.
